Completed in 1889, the modified Elizabethan style dwelling was built primarily of native stone and locally manufactured brick. A prominent doctor, Kremers was elected mayor of the city in 1889. After his death in 1914, his wife, Alice Van Zwaluwenburg-Kremers, lived here until 1917. Since then, the building has been used as a hospital, fraternity house, and museum until its conversion to a Bed and Breakfast in 1996.
