Built in 1932, this historic, peaceful resort rests 800' off the highway along the main stream of the AuSable River and adjacent to the Huron National Forest. Its 13 cottages are nestled among acres of natural pine and oak which provide a lovely and relaxed setting.

Sam and Natalie Giardina have owned and operated Hinchman since 1971. We were very impressed by the Giaradinas focus on guest comfort. As Natalie firmly states, they don't maintain and clean their lodgings simply to ensure their AAA approval ... they do it to ensure the maximum comfort of their guests.

To achieve this philosophy, their cottages continually undergo renovations. All feature fully heated and air conditioned rooms as well as cable TV, radios, phones and equipped kitchens. We were very impressed with the cleanliness and comfort of each cottage. Even the smaller one bedrooms were well maintained and comfortable with the larger cottages providing plenty of room.

The two lakes found at Hinchman add to the resort's scenic beauty. The smaller spring-fed lake serves as their private swimming beach and trout pond. The sandy beach is clean and the swimming fun and safe for all. Throwing a line into their well-stocked trout pond is almost certain to meet with success (small fee charged per trout). The second lake provides free fishing.

Guests will find plenty to do at Hinchman no matter what season. In spring, it's a bird lovers paradise. Natalie tells us their grounds welcome diverse bird populations including the Kirtland Warbler. If you're interested, free tours are available through the U.S. Forest Service.

Besides plenty of swimming, hiking, biking and fishing in the summer, guests can also rent a family size canoe for a trip on the AuSable. In the evenings there are bonfires, and kids of all ages will enjoy the game room or outdoor play area. Horseback riding, paddle boat trips on the AuSable and golf courses are only a few miles away.

The scenic, natural grounds of Hinchman Acres are an excellent spot for your fall color retreat. Enjoy a full day of visiting area antique shops or walking through the breathtaking fall colors before you kick back in your cozy cottage to warm by its fireplace. Let's not forget winter! When the snow flies, Hinchman again comes alive. With over 25 kilometers of groomed and double tracked cross country ski trails in the Huron National Forest and along the beautiful AuSable River you're sure to keep your days full. Hinchman provides complete rental equipment, warming hut and free instructions.

Any time of year, Hinchman Acres provides the comfort and cleanliness vacationers seek in a setting that's sure to please.
